Full and Partial Dentures in Bakersfield
Dentures are removable replacements for a missing set of teeth and the tissue surrounding them. They are considered a quick and economical solution to teeth lost through gum disease, dental decay, genetic effects and accidents.
The two primary categories of dentures are complete dentures and partial dentures. Full dentures are used when a patient loses most or all of their tooth in one or both arcs while partial arcs replace just a few teeth.
The process of getting dentures
The process of getting dentures is not identical for everyone undergoing it. Patients who must have their teeth removed first may have to wait approximately 8-12 weeks to heal completely and be ready for dentures. If you have no teeth removals to worry about, 3 to 4 weeks could be enough to have your treatment completed.
In the initial appointment, you will be checked for gum disease and any other infection that may deem you ineligible for the procedure.
An impression of your mouth will be taken and sent to a dental laboratory for fabrication of your dentures. Most dentists use a dental putty, which you're required to bite into.
You may have to wait up to a week before your dentures are received back at the dentist's.
Once your dentures are fitted, the dentist will communicate to you about follow up visits and how to clean and care for your units. Be sure to follow these guidelines to maximize the longevity of your dentures.
